WAITING ON BOLAJI – PART 2

The first time I realized how pretty I was, was when I came home one afternoon from school after Bolaji smiled at me during lunch break. That was 8 years ago. Since then, he practically watched me grow into the woman I am today, and I watched him become the man I was afraid he wouldn’t become. I have never been with any other man, Bolaji was it for me. He flaunted me around school as his one and only chick but even I knew that wasn’t all true. The first time I got pregnant was freshmen year in the university. No one was to know about it and so we did what we had to do or rather, I did what he asked me to do. No doubts, Bolaji loves me, but I wish he didn’t have to pick moments like this to make me question that love.

“Did you?” I asked.
“Did I what?”
“Did you sleep with her?” I almost choked on my words.
“Yes but—” before he could finished his word, I slapped him.
“It was just a one night—” Without letting him finish again; I slapped him for the second time.
“You bastard, how many times do you think it took for you to get me pregnant?”
He was quite for a minute, reminiscing if he was completely sane because his Uwa just slapped him twice in the face. He used his hands to rub his jaw, checking if anything on his pretty face was broken.
“Baby we can handle this much better.”
“But then you brought me to a freaking restaurant so you can disgrace me abi?”
“That’s why I brought you here for god-sake. I thought  you would handle this better since it’s a public place; I guess I was wrong.” He hissed. He didn’t understand just how serious the issue was, I was going to tell him.
“Oya na no wahala. You know what to do abi? Then let’s go.” I picked up my purse ready to leave but he held me back to my seat with his question.
“What are you talking about?”
“Babe we don’t need to worry much about this,” I said, sitting more comfortably in my chair.  “you know what to do with the baby or do you need me to spell it out for you?” My state of dried sarcasm was slowly killing him. Wait, Bola didn’t think he could come here and throw something like that out, and I would nod my head to it right? He had another thing coming for him! He was looking at me clueless. I thought I would never see the day when Bola didn’t have much or anything to say.
“Bolaji we are wasting time, the quicker the better. Take that girl to the clinic or better still, don’t escort her there just give her the money, and she will get rid of the thing so we can all go back to our prospective lives; end of story.” That was when he slowly sighed and slurp back to his chair in defeat.
“No bola don’t give me that look, don’t even dare! You will do as I just told you, as you always told me; no questions asked.”
“But I can’t, we can’t! Her parents are already on my neck!”
“Her who?” I laughed. “Come again? You said her who?”
“Her parent’s babe. She said she has already told them about the baby, and what comes next now is that I must marry her.”
Ha! That was the peak of it. Just as I was about to give him the last dose of his medicine,  a waitress came forward.
“Ma’am, sir,” she looked at both of us, faking a smile which she was paid to do. “Would you lovely couple like to order now?” Before Bola could speak, I took the mike from him.
“Yes please.” I picked up the menu and began placing my order. “We will like a little bit of sanity here, accompanied with some of your finest abortion pills. 8 years of my life back, and maybe a wedding ring afterwards wouldn’t be such a bad idea now would it?” I looked back at Bola. The waitresses’ mouth dropped. She fixed her accusing eyes on bola who was scribbling his head, looking for something to say.
“Wait I’m not done, and while you’re at it, please fix this man a plate of his own betrayal.” I slammed the menu on the table, picked up my purse and walked out.
“Uwa! Uwa! Come back here. Stop right this minute, I said stop!” He kept calling after, following behind me to the parking lot while I tried locating the position I parked my car. I turned round to face him, putting him out of his misery.
“We have nothing to talk about until further notice!” I hit my car control remote, and my car beeped out of the bunch in the parking lot. I walked head held high to my car, smiling at anyone I saw coming towards me but on the inside; I was dying.
One week Later…
He did all the necessary calling like he was supposed to do since he was a pretense gentleman. I did not pick up my calls; he still had nothing important to say. But this afternoon, I had more than enough to say to him. As I knocked on his door, my hands were shaking. No, this was going too far. Bolaji was doing more than enough. I didn’t expect this, not in a million years. How would I explain this situation to anyone and above all, how would I explain this to my parents who has been on my neck for the past couple of years.
He opened the door at the fourth knock. I think my knocking woke him up considering that it was only 9 in the morning. When he saw me, a sigh of relief left him unexpectedly.
“Good morning.” He said in a voice I was too familiar with. I didn’t come for his good morning; I came to make this one hell of a bad morning.
“Can I come in?” I had to ask because I no longer felt welcomed; Bola was now a stranger to me.
“Sure…” he quickly gave way for me to come inside.
“What would you like to have, I just woke up, mind the—“
“Ehn, ehn, just shut up. Come ooh… so out of every body in the whole of New-York, the only person you saw fit to put that thing between your legs inside of was my little cousin Sewa?”
